The Wisconsin Idea in Action

About

One of the longest and deepest traditions surrounding the University of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Idea signifies a general principle: that education should influence people’s lives beyond the boundaries of the campus. Synonymous with Wisconsin for more than a century, this “Idea” has become the guiding philosophy of university outreach efforts in Wisconsin and throughout the world. The Wisconsin Idea in Action

The Wisconsin Idea Database contains nearly 1,000 research projects representing UW–Madison’s service to the state. Periodically, we send a call to all faculty and staff asking them to submit examples of their work that benefits the state. In addition to ongoing research projects, we update the database annually with information varying from student internships to alumni impact to industry collaboration. We’re constantly improving the kinds of data we collect and display. Should you have any questions or ideas for further improvement, please contact us at ideas@wisconsinidea.wisc.edu.
