Research into Practice: Helping Wisconsin Clinicians to Help Their Patients Quit Smoking
The University of Wisconsin Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention Outreach Program provides on-site training and technical assistance to clinicians, health systems and insurers throughout Wisconsin about evidence-based methods to assist their patients who want to quit smoking or using other tobacco products and the importance of providing coverage for these benefits. This includes helping health care systems with the integration of evidence-based tobacco cessation interventions and the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line into the electronic health record and the clinical workflow. The Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line (800-QUIT-NOW) provides free counseling and medication 24/7 to any Wisconsin resident wanting assistance with quitting tobacco.
Outcomes
On-site training and technical assistance about evidence-based tobacco dependence treatment with thousands of clinicians and every health system in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line has served more than 150,000 residents since 2001.
