Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene Forensic Toxicology (OWI and death investigations)
The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene Forensic Toxicology Section provides alcohol and drug testing to local and state law enforcement agencies in support of Wisconsin's impaired driving laws (OWI - Operating While Intoxicated). In 2018, the WSLH Toxicology section tested specimens from nearly 19,000 drivers. WSLH Toxicologists also provide testing to coroners and medical examiners for routine death investigations. Advanced testing technology implemented in 2019 allows WSLH scientists to better detect opioids and synthetic drugs to aid in death investigations and for Wisconsin Department of Health Services' surveillance efforts.
Outcomes
Helping law enforcement agencies make Wisconsin's roads safer to travel. Helping families obtain an answer in the death of a loved one.
