Wisconsin Runoff Risk Advisory Forecast
The Runoff Risk Advisory Forecast (RRAF) is a website for livestock farmers and manure haulers on days they are considering applying manure. It displays a probability of runoff occurring for a five-day window into the future, or a ten-day window in the winter, at a 2-kilometer (1.25-mile) cell size for the whole state. It also includes maps with forecasts of precipitation, soil temperature, and soil saturation. This information helps farm operations avoid applying manure to runoff prone fields at times of high runoff-risk and thus protects surface water quality. The RRAF is the result of an interagency collaboration. The forecasts are provided by the National Weather Service.
Outcomes
The RRAF forecast map (http://www.manureadvisorysystem.wi.gov/runoffrisk/index)is updated four times daily and provides farmers with a way to assess for and minimize the risk of runoff from manure applications to cropland.
