Rapid and Efficient Construction of Highway Bridges
The U.W. is working with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (Madison and EauClaire offices) to pilot a new type of construction system for use in 2010 on a State Highway 25 multi-span bridge over part of the Mississippi River. Portions of the bridge's supporting structure will be precast at a plant and then rapidly erected at the bridge site; helping reduce the construction duration and impact on the traveling public.
Outcomes
Reducing bridge closure times during replacement has a widespread economic impact on the freight shipping industry and personal travel.
