Smart Prevention: Improving aquatic invasive species prevention programs in Wisconsin
The Center for Limnology is sharing information about the vulnerability of Wisconsin lakes to infestation by invasive species. Aquatic invasive species pose a threat to water quality, tourism and fisheries, and can have significant economic costs. This project has made it possible for lake associations and resource managers to access invasive species vulnerability information. We have run a series of workshops to educate and inform resource managers and lake association leaders to use vulnerability information to plan management efforts more effectively. We have also created a website with an online mapping tool that identifies vulnerable lakes and streams. Workshop materials are posted on the website so resource managers can offer workshop in their region.
Outcomes
Local lake associations and resource managers are better equipped to make effective decisions to prevent the spread of invasive species in Wisconsin.
