Days in the Field
Days in the Field is an experiential program coordinated by Letters & Science Career Services program that gives all UW-Madison students (regardless of major and school/college affiliation) the opportunity to participate in an on-site visit to a local or regional employer. Each event focuses on a specific business or organization in Wisconsin and the Chicago area. Students may network with employers, learn more about jobs and internships, tour departments, talk with employees, and discover what employers look for in an ideal candidate. Employers gain visibility and are able to share information about their industry, organizational culture, work environment, opportunities for advancement, and diversity initiatives.
Outcomes
The intent of this program is to give students an opportunity to learn more about Wisconsin employers as well as increase those employers' visibility. This experience potentially keeps students employed in the state. In past years, generally about 20 students participate in the program per employer visit. In recent years there has been expansion of the program to include co-sponsorship by departments/units of UW-Madison and student organizations. Chartered busses now take larger groups of students on day-long visits to several employers in Milwaukee, Chicago and other areas.
