Evaluation of "democracy it is!"
Democracy it is! was a program for K-12 in-school use with eight programs designed to meet the needs of educators in reaching and exceeding Wisconsin and national education goals on Democracy and citizenship. The programs used video, web, and teaching guide materials, all directly aligned with Wisconsin and national cross-curricular standards. Programs included: Rules for Citizens, Rights of Citizens, Responsibilities of Citizens, Choices and Changes, Principles of Democracy, Citizenship and Majority Rule, Power and Privilege, and Activism and Social Justice. Researchers at the Center for Communication Research performed the formative evaluation of this project.
Outcomes
This program helped educate Wisconsin children and encouraged them to take an active role in Democracy even at a young age. The "democracy it is!" series was awarded Best Instructional Series in the category of Instructional Media from the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) and it also won an AVA Platinum Award for Program 8: "Activism and Social Justice."
