WisItalia
WisItalia is a non-profit, voluntary organization that was created in 2000 to promote the teaching of Italian language classes in the elementary and secondary schools in Wisconsin. The organization encourages the teaching of the Italian language and the culture of Italy at all classroom levels as well as the general public. WisItalia provides services to the community such as grants to Wisconsin schools, programs and educators, and networking resources for educators. The organization holds an annual awards banquet honoring an "Italian teacher of the year" as well as other community recognitions. WisItalia was founded by the Italian-American Clubs in Milwaukee, Madison, Racine, Kenosha, Green Bay and Wausau, as well as UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee.
Outcomes
To-date, WisItalia has been successful in either creating new Italian programs, or promoting and supporting existing Italian programs in Wisconsin. This continues to grow and provides a valuable service to teachers, students and the community. As of May 2010, WisItalia distributed $11,150 to 14 Wisconsin schools/programs for the 2009-2010 school year.
