Fusion Technology Institute (FTI)
Founded in 1971, the Fusion Technology Institute (FTI) at UW-Madison is home to the largest program in the United States for advanced degrees in fusion engineering. The Institute was established to develop clean, safe, and economical fusion energy sources for use in the 21st century. FTI creates near-term commerical products that use fusion energy to enhance the quality of life of people.
Outcomes
Over the years, the FTI has performed more than $80 million in research for federal, state and industrial organizations. The Institute has also graduated over 150 Ph.D candidates, which occupy key management positions in U.S. Industry, National Laboratories and Universities. They have also published over 60,000 pages of reports.
