The Dairyland Initiative
The main aim of the ‘Dairyland Initiative’ is to create a structured iterative process that brings dairy producers, their advisors, agricultural builders and lenders together and advances the latest research-based housing guidelines for dairy cattle. The ultimate goal is to advance animal welfare in the dairy industry by creating partnerships, where consumers can be confident that the dairy products that they buy come from farms operating with the highest standards of animal care, welfare, and productivity, and where the producers share in long-term economic viability.
Outcomes
The Dairyland Initiative has had more than 111,000 visitors to the website from around the world, and our housing recommendations are influencing the construction of at least two-thirds of the new facilities being constructed in the U.S. Through our website, social media, and workshops, which have trained over 2,200 individuals, we are creating a network of informed individuals making construction decisions which benefit dairy cattle well-being.
