Allied Area Food Pantry Outreach
Medical students provide monthly health education information sessions at the mobile food pantry sponsored by Second Harvest for the Allied Drive neighborhood. Students share important information about health and wellness and provide fresh fruit for food pantry clients.
Outcomes
Since 2006, approximately 50 individuals have received health information and fresh fruit every month. Over 30 medical students have volunteered for this program and report valuing the experience and interaction with community members, increasing their knowledge of social determinants of health, poverty, and food insecurity. This event also coordinates with other partnering events, such as health fairs, to provide and discuss health and wellness information.
