Allied Learning Center Science Outreach Program
Medical students work twice every month with fourth and fifth graders in the Allied Learning Center afterschool program, providing supplemental education programs in health and wellness.
Outcomes
Annually since 2008, six to ten medical students volunteer twice a month during the academic year, working with 20-30 fourth and fifth grade students. Grade schoolers benefit from additional instruction in science based topics, assistance with homework and reading, healthy snacks and fitness activities. Medical students report this program adds value to their education, provides valuable information about social determinants of health and allows them to contribute positively to their community.
