German Day
Each spring, the Department of German hosts its annual German Day. Hundreds of students from Wisconsin middle schools and high schools come to Union South on the UW-Madison campus to participate in various activities, including reciting poetry, spelling, Pictionary, charades, and performing skits. German Day is one of the department's main outreach projects.
Outcomes
Through German Day we in the Department of German maintain routine contact with over 50 school districts in the state that have German programs. Many of their teachers are graduates of the UW System, and many students in our undergraduate program come from schools that participate or participated in German Day. We estimate that over 10,000 students of German in Wisconsin have participated since German Day began in 1990.
