Delta Internship Program
The Delta Internship Program provides graduate students and postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to advance their training as teachers and expand their teaching portfolios in the areas of natural and social sciences, engineering and mathematics. The Delta Program's Pillars of Teaching-as-Research, Learning-through-Diversity, and Learning Communities shape the internship experience. Teaching-as-Research promotes implementing research methods to teaching, Learning Community provides leadership and membership roles to all participants and Learning-through-Diversity focuses on recognizing common teaching challenges and uniting diverse views, students and faculty members to advance effective teaching methods.
Outcomes
For example, more than 30 graduate students from L&S have participated in the Delta Internship Program during the past six years. This program pairs graduate students with a faculty/staff partner to address an identified student learning challenge. The graduate students and faculty develop innovative teaching ideas, put them into practice, and measure the outcomes. The Delta program has served Carroll University, Edgewood College, and Madison (Area Technical) College and is a project of the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.
