Enhancing Participation in Employment Settings Through AAC
UW Clinical Professor Jamie Murray-Branch and her team have developed a project that uses innovative methods like podcasting to provide critical information for those who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) in order to enhance employment outcomes. The podcasts focus on developing attitudes, opportunities and abilities necessary for independent communication. Podcast episodes will offer advice and assistance on various topics including the roles and needs of team members, and how to effectively prepare for a job interview.
Outcomes
Information related to job searching for consumers who use AAC, and showcases targeted skills through video clips featuring actual AAC consumers. A related partnership with the Center on Education and Work aims to adapt the existing job search/preparation curriculum on the WISCareers site for the needs of people with developmental disabilities. In addition, the project will determine how feasible the podcasting format is to access important information by individuals who use AAC in the workplace.
