Providing teletherapy, outreach for patients with disorders
UW Clinical Professor Michelle Quinn and select communication disorder graduate students are providing teletherapy to a farm family in northern Wisconsin whose son recently received a cochlear implant. The child’s educational team has watched some of the sessions to learn techniques and to select and implement goals specific to his needs. The family also travels to the UW Speech and Hearing Clinic to ensure the students have live interaction time.
Outcomes
This form of service delivery, if expanded, will allow specialty expertise from campus to enter the homes of families who have no available specialists in their area — without them having to travel to Madison. It also provides students with clinical experience to serve future families wherever they work.
