Aging with Intellectual Disability: Support for Wisconsin's Group Home Workers
Based on research in Australia with caregivers of older adults with intellectual disability and in collaboration with the Wisconsin Dept. of Health Services, this project adapted resources for group home works to help them care for older adults as they age in group homes. A guide was developed for group home workers, including chapters on normal aging, working with families, working with health care providers, decision making and advocating for the older adult, end of life care, understanding and managing over 40 symptoms and conditions, and accessing resources in Wisconsin. A training aid for group home supervisors is also available. The materials are downloadable for free online or for purchase on the School of Nursing website.
Outcomes
This educational resource has reached over 150 group home workers in Wisconsin.
