National Alliance on Mental Illness
Dr. Gooding, an internationally recognized expert on schizophrenia and other forms of psychotic disorders, serves as a consultant for the state and local boards of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). She has done this since her arrival to the UW-Madison campus in 1995. She is a former member of both county and state boards. She writes for their newsletter, making research advances accessible for the people of the state, who may be directly or indirectly affected by mental illness by being a friend, relative, or neighbor of someone with a mental illness. Weather and time permitting, she visits different counties in Wisconsin and gives talks about how to recognize impending signs of mental illness and when to get help.
