Teacher Training Workshop: The Hmong in Contemporary and Historical Perspective (Appleton/Madison)
In June 2013, UW-Madison's Center for Southeast Asian Studies and Center for East Asian Studies collaborated with the Appleton, Oshkosh, and Madison Hmong communities to host a workshop for Wisconsin K-14 teachers, librarians, language specialists and administrators interested in learning more about the history and current lives of the Hmong who have come to Wisconsin over the past several decades after aiding the US during the Vietnam War. Speakers were Hmong teachers and high school students, along with a Hmong Ph.D. student who grew up in Wisconsin. The workshop in both venues, Appleton and Madison, was a tremendous success, receiving high praise and other expressions of appreciation from participants and demands for future workshops.
