Ride the Drive Helmet Fitting Stations
Stemming from the project leader's observations at early events that many children had poorly-fitting bicycle helmets, this event takes place at Madison's twice-annual "Ride the Drive" days, where city streets are closed off and opened up for bicyclists, runners, skaters, walkers, etc. The group uses signs in advance of the stations to encourage participants to think about whether their helmet fits properly. Trained spotters identify clearly ill-fitting helmets and offer to help make adjustments. Walk-up traffic from a busy "family area" will also be assisted. Helmet sales are also available for those with old, ill-sized or no helmets, often selling out completely.
