The Wisconsin Idea in Action

Paper on the Law of Intellectual Property Exhaustion

Extending the Wisconsin idea of engaged scholarship globally, this project entailed preparing a comprehensive study of the rights to resell and reuse inventions and creations under intellectual property law as it exists in various countries and regions (US, EU, Japan, China, India, and Canada). The final document, a 107 page report analyzing policies and legal applications, will be published in the Fall by the International Consortium for Sustainable Trade and Development (ICTSD) in Geneva and is timely in light of two recent Supreme Court cases on the issue and the ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty promoting access to copyrighted works for the visually impaired.
