Wisconsin Land Use Codes
This project compares Wisconsin land use codes between jurisdictions. That is, regional planning commissions and counties each develop their own land use coding system for their area. To be able to answer state level land use queries, however, such as to find all the parcels coded as multi-family, codes need to be compared across jurisdictions. We are creating a merged knowledge base of Wisconsin land use codes so that a computer could automatically match or compare codes between jurisdictions. We are using newly emerging semantic technology and formal representation languages, such as OWL. We envision that in the future our work will be integrated into a state-wide parcel database and geospatial information system.
Outcomes
We created a demo so people can see how codes compare and edit the comparisons, if needed.
