Neuroscience Outreach
As part of the Neuroscience Training Program, UW-Madison Professor Lyn Turkstra does outreach with middle and high schools statewide to increase awareness of brain and neurological communication disorders. Professor Turkstra and her students also give talks to support groups and other community organizations around the state on strategies for helping individuals with acquired communication disorders like traumatic brain injury.
Outcomes
Professor Turkstra's outreach provides an increase in the number of students interested in studying the brain and communication disorders, as well as helping bring about improvements in services provided to people with disabilities. The involvement of community partners increases awareness about brain injury prevention, education, and services.
