Active Early
Active Early is working with 15 child care agencies from around the state to increase the levels of physical activity in early care and education settings through training, technical assistance, micro-grants and family engagement strategies. Settings that serve children from families of lower socioeconomic status and who are Latino, African American, Native American and Hmong have been prioritized. The three primary goals are: 1) Increased physical activity to 60 minutes of structured and 60 minutes of unstructured per day; 2) Reduced rates of childhood obesity among health disparity populations in Wisconsin’s underserved rural and urban communities; 3) Parental and provider buy-in to physical activity and obesity prevention efforts.
Outcomes
1) Increased physical activity to 60 minutes structured and 60 minutes unstructured per day among 2 to 5 year old children of low socioeconomic status and/or minority status. 2) Reduced rates of childhood obesity among health disparity populations in Wisconsin’s underserved rural and urban communities. 3) Parental and provider buy-in to physical activity and obesity prevention efforts. 4) Directly increase the knowledge of at least 77 early care and education professionals in providing sufficient, engaging opportunities for physical activity and teaching children fundamental skills in self-care and well-being. 5) Support early care/education professionals in engaging parents in learning related to physical activity and obesity prevention.
