Rock and Fossil Identifications
It often begins with an email or phone call with, "I found this strange rock...". The UW Geology Museum and its staff serve as resources for Wisconsinites who have found rocks or fossils and want them identified. Annually the team examines and identifies hundreds of specimens for the public either in person or via email. These contacts are used as opportunities to educate them about Wisconsin's geologic history and help them put their discovery in context to the state's natural resources.
