Milking Research and Instruction Lab
The UW Milking lab has been in operation since 1990. The lab has been engaged in a number of technical issues related to milking machines, including research to support standards development for both conventional and robotic milking applications and methods to monitor and improve milking performance and milk quality. Lab members work closely with faculty in the dairy science and food science departments on issues related to milk quality and mastitis. The results of our work have been integrated into extension programs and a series of milking parlor user groups in which our staff meets with dairy managers to better understand the challenges they face and to provide the latest research-based information to help meet these challenges.
