K-12 Family Science Nights
The Family Science Nights program helps to connect science volunteers with schools & community centers in and around Madison, Wi for a night of fun and science. Our goal is to bring engaging, hands-on science activities into schools and community centers, so that all kids can have access and exposure to exciting science. Schools and community centers request volunteers for their events through a submission form on our website. The program then compiles all the event requests onto one google signup form and broadcast to outreach groups, volunteers, professionals, and other volunteers at UW-Madison, Madison College, Madison-area high schools, and other participants in the Madison area.
Outcomes
The program solicits volunteers for 20-30 event requests annually. One tangible outcome is that we have more schools building annual events into their school year planning, and those events have seen increased participation (aside of pandemic-related challenges that limited in-person events). Another tangible outcome is that we have seen an increase in community requests outside of schools (including community centers and neighborhood associations).
