MACROSIMs (Massively Adaptive Complex Realistic Online Simulation with Interactive Mentoring)
This fall, the College of Engineering will launch a first of its kind MACROSIM. After three years of pilot testing at leading engineering schools, the new online course will be offered to first year students in the College. Students log into the simulation and work as teams to brainstorm innovative solutions to real-world challenges. MACROSIMs are designed as “virtual internships,” giving participants a chance to do research, develop, and test prototypes. More women may also be encouraged to pursue engineering through this opportunity. The program also tracks students’ work, giving instructors deeper insight into the critical thinking processes of their students and potentially offering insight into teaching and learning methods.
