Wisconsin Surgical Coaching Program
Of the approximately 1.2 million inpatient operations performed each year in Wisconsin, an estimated 36,000 to 43,000 patients will experience a serious adverse event. Each year, these adverse events contribute to the potentially preventable death of 2,000 to 3,000 Wisconsin patients. The majority of these are related to a technical error in the operating room. No program currently exists to improve the technical performance of surgeons in practice. By filling this void, the Wisconsin Surgical Coaching Program has the potential to revolutionize continuous professional development and performance improvement for surgeons, improve the quality and safety of surgical care and save lives across Wisconsin.
