The Wisconsin Idea in Action

Ethiopia Global Health Twinning Partnerships

Since 2007, the UW has partnered with Addis Ababa University for the shared purpose of improving health systems, medical education, and community health in Ethiopia. These efforts have brought together interdisciplinary teams from multiple UW medical specialties and academic departments, involving the participation of students, residents, faculty and staff, with an emphasis on bi-directional exchanges between institutions. A twinning partnership approach has been taken, which emphasizes volunteerism, peer-to-peer relationships, sustainability, and collective accountability. Some of the program areas include emergency medicine, pediatric emergency medicine, medical education, family medicine, public health, and food systems.
