Vernon County Farm to School
The Vernon County Farm to School Initiative works to improve southwest Wisconsin's health and environment by educating local students on healthy eating and bringing fresh, local foods to school lunches. The initiative was started by several citizen groups concerned with the nutrition in school lunches. Food education includes food tastings, farmer visits and discussions about healthy food choices. This project also supports local farmers and food businesses by buying and promoting their healthy products. The Farm to School Initiative is a Transform Wisconsin project, which is funded by the Wisconsin Clearinghouse Prevention Services, a division of University Health Services.
