Bilingual Healthy Choices Project
The Bilingual Healthy Choices Project, or Elecciones Saludables, is a 12 week program for Milwaukee families to help them fight obesity with a "learning" component (nutrition, physical activity and stress management); a "relating" component (participants connect and communicate their fears, needs and challenges related to health); and a "doing" component (participants commit to making eating and lifestyle decisions). Nearly 68% of adults and 29% of children lost weight through their participation in the program. The project is run through the 16th Street Community Health Center in Milwaukee and partly funded through a grant by the 2013 Community-Academic Partnership Fund.
