Wisconsin Firewagon Project
Through a generous grant from the Institute of Chemical Education (ICE) Drier was able to build a portable glassblowing podium for community outreach, called the Wisconsin Firewagon. Presentations are an opportunity to highlight the role of the scientific glassblower in scientific research as well as discuss topics related to glass, glass history, glass science, chemistry and physics. Because of the unique aspect of scientific glassblowing, Drier has an opportunity through outreach to further the public's knowledge of glass, scientific glassblowing and its contributions and value to industry, science and scientific research.
Outcomes
The Wisconsin Firewagon Project serves to increase students' knowledge and appreciation of glass, glass related science, chemistry, physics and art. Drier also discusses educational and career opportunities in scientific glassblowing and glass sciences.
