Silvopasture in southwest Wisconsin
Wisconsin property tax law provides incentives for grazing of livestock in farm woodlands. Conservationists and foresters consider such practice destructive, exacerbating soil and water quality problems and degrading timber value. We have three related projects that seek to find ways to minimize environmental damage from this practice through application of the principles of management intensive rotational grazing. Initial results indicate that better practices could actually benefit woods management objectives.
