Rural Nursing Shortage
A three-week Rural Community Health Immersion Clinical program is helping nursing students gain a new perspective on health care that can only be found in rural areas. This program creates a unique opportunity for these students to not only learn about health care in the area, but also learn about the environmental, occupational health, and cultural issues that are unique to that community. In 2015, students helped with a community-based screening for diabetes in Barron County, contributed to the community health needs assessment in Rusk County, and did targeted outreach to promote early detection and treatment of sexually transmitted infections in Chippewa County.
