Measuring the Impact of Farmers Markets
In order to improve farmers markets not only in Wisconsin but throughout the U.S., Alfonso Morales, associate professor in urban and regional planning at UW-Madison, is working to help market managers collect and interpret data on the impacts of markets on communities. The project is identifying effective and consistent measures to quantify the impact of farmers markets while developing a web-based tool that will help market managers collect and interpret these measures. This data will help give the farmers markets and their local partners the feedback necessary to enhance credibility and enable better decision-making, and it will enhance the knowledge available to scholars and the USDA.
