Vegetable Research Analyzes Best Growing Practices
The Hancock Agricultural Research Station has allowed UW-Madison researchers to explore the vegetable industry in order to sustainably increase productivity and improve the processing of crops in Wisconsin and beyond. The research station has been successful in finding ways for growers to store potatoes for longer periods of time while still maintaining the crop’s quality. The research station also works to acquire scientific knowledge to understand the amounts of irrigation water, fertilizers and pesticides that should be used in order to minimize the impact on underground and surface water supplies. All of the research performed at the station is used to help growers use the best practices, which ultimately benefits Wisconsin’s economy.
