Recovering Analog and Digital Data (RADD)
The iSchool at UW-Madison spent 2016-17 rescuing Wisconsin history in audiovisual form. Oral histories and video documentaries in the Mineral Point Library/Archives, as well as unique community-created broadcast programming from community broadcast station WYOU in Madison, photographs and film from Langlade County Historical Society, and community theatre and ceremony from the School for the Deaf in Delavan, were digitized from perishable reel-to-reel tapes, cassettes, VHS tapes, glass slides, and U-Matic video. This project is generously supported by the Ira and Ineva Reilly Wisconsin Idea Endowment.
Outcomes
Unique, irreplaceable audio and video materials from Wisconsin history are being rescued from decay and obscurity, with many placed online for a new generation of access.
