Urban Canid Project
The Urban Canid Project is led by Professor David Drake and a University of Wisconsin-Madison research team. Their mission is threefold. First, they want to understand how red fox and coyotes interact in, and use, an urban landscape. Second, they want to understand what diseases urban red foxes and coyotes have been exposed to and/or carry. Lastly, the project wants to increase the public’s awareness, knowledge, and tolerance for red fox and coyotes in urban areas. This has been a valuable tool for the Madison area. Drake has also collaborated with the Milwaukee County Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture to establish their own tracking site there, called Milwaukee County Coyote Watch.
