Healthcare garden design
Lily Mank, a UW grad and current post bachelors research intern with the Environmental Design Lab, has a degree in landscape architecture from the UW and a certificate in Healthcare Garden Design from the Chicago Botanic Garden. Mank’s senior capstone project was at Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc, which offers treatment for individuals with eating disorders, OCD and anxiety, addiction and depression. Mank worked to increase the patient and staff engagement with nature and created a design that eliminated obstacles to nature interaction in an aesthetically pleasing manner. Her design concept was centered on the idea of “transition,” which not only included transition from indoor to outdoor, but also from hospital to home.
