Flambeau River Community Growing Center
The Flambeau River Community Growing Center is located in the Northern Wisconsin city of Park Falls. It is a collaborative community project headed by Michael Geiger, a graduate student, and Professor Sara Patterson, both from the Horticulture Department. This project received seed funding from the Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment. The project began in fall 2012 as a collaboration among an academic higher learning institution, a paper mill, health care workers, engineers and local schools. Today it functions as a nonprofit community center with a greenhouse and outdoor growing space. Uses include community plots, master gardener classes, workshops for all ages and participation from local schools.
