Caring Connections: Supporting families by improving residential care visits
Over 53,000 older adults are residents of nursing home or long-term care facilities in Wisconsin. Caring Connections is a 2-hour workshop designed to improve the well-being of older adults in residential care facilities and their families by building skills that promote positive, nourishing visits that leave both the resident and visitor feeling satisfied. The workshop includes components on having meaningful conversations with loved ones in residential care, developing empathy for residents, and understanding the importance of and incorporating appropriate physical touch (e.g., hand-holding). The workshop is currently being piloted in Waukesha County in partnership with Extension, with intentions to disseminate throughout the state.
