Discovery Farms Program
For over 12 years, UW-Discovery Farms has worked with Wisconsin farmers to identify the water quality impacts of different farming systems and settings around the state. The program conducts on-farm research to identify practices with environmental impacts and works with producers to implement practices to reduce losses. UW-Discovery Farms takes a real-world approach to finding the most economical solutions to agriculture’s environmental challenges. Current projects include: on-farm monitoring in Janesville, WI; a Nitrogen Use Efficiency Network; and the Discovery Watershed Project in Jersey Valley and Dry Run. Current educational materials are available on topics related to runoff, manure management, tillage, and leachate.
Outcomes
Farmers that we have worked or shared information with are using our information to adjust practices in order to mitigate nutrient and sediment loss.
