Annual Hearing, Speech, and Language Screening for At-Risk Children
The UW Speech and Hearing Clinic provides the hearing and middle ear screenings for over 1,000 children who attend Dane County Head Start (Reach Dane) each year. Additionally, the clinic performs hearing screenings for the children enrolled in early Head Start as part of the Early Childhood Hearing Outreach (ECHO) Initiative. The clinic also provides speech and language screenings for children whose teachers have identified speech or language concerns. This longstanding partnership between the UW Speech and Hearing Clinic and Dane County Head Start began over 25 years ago. The UWSHC’s screenings help identify children who need audiologic, speech-language, or medical intervention.
Outcomes
This annual event offers reduced fees for hearing, speech-language, and pre-literacy screenings with annual in-kind donations to Reach Dane.
