Annual Colloquium on Aging
The Annual Colloquium on Aging is held each fall in Madison, Wisconsin. It includes talks given by UW-Madison faculty and nationally known keynote speakers on different topics each year pertaining to positive aging. The event also includes a poster session in which UW-Madison researchers present their latest aging research, and a Health and Resource Fair that brings together over 40 local and state organizations that provide aging resources. It is offered free to the public, and is attended each year by over 500 older adults and practitioners in the field of aging.
Outcomes
Participants, who come from throughout southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, can use the information presented at the event in their daily lives to improve health and quality of life. The event also provides practitioners and caregivers with information they can apply to their work with older adults. The health fair offers tests, such as blood pressure readings and heel bone densitometries done by osteoporosis researchers, which can help attendees identify potential health problems that can be followed up with their physicians. Feedback indicates that participants find the information they receive at the event extremely practical and useful.
