Decarbonized-Engine Research Consortium (DERC)
The Engine Research Center (ERC) at UW-Madison launched an international Diesel Emissions Reduction Consortium (DERC) in 2004 (later renamed the Decarbonized-Engine Research Consortium) to assist diesel engine manufacturers and related industries meet future diesel engine emissions regulations and improve existing engines. With 75 years of comprehensive research experience in engine physics, the Engine Research Center has unique capabilities for improving fundamental understanding and control of engines through various research methods.
Outcomes
DERC addresses combustion-related issues common to all types of engines. The broad base of support (there are approximately 20 member companies) makes the University of Wisconsin-Madison the go-to place for engine combustion, and is a major contributor to many Wisconsin companies that make engines, engine components, and software used for engine development.
