SpectroCon LLC - Startup Company
UW Associate Professor Nadine Connor, Associate Professor Gregory Hartig, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Michael Conforti have founded a start-up company in direct response to a recognized need within the medical industry for a solution to the problem of postsurgical venous congestion, which is a serious complication when replanted tissue becomes congested with blood. SpectroCon develops and commercializes Autoflow, which was developed by the company’s founders as a medical device to treat venous congestion. SpectroCon develops innovative technology for the treatment of postsurgical tissue disruption and poorly healing wounds, conditions that create a poor environment for rehabilitation of voice and swallowing.
Outcomes
SpectroCon is also working on an electronic method of collecting health-related quality of life information from children. In so doing, it received Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) funding, which supported one graduate student and engineer consultant, and had a subcontract to the UW communications disorder department. In addition, through the company’s partnership with the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), the company has a patent pending on blood removal technology and also provides patients with alternative solutions for tissue function restoration as opposed to medicinal leeches.
