Reaching Out to Wisconsin School Nurses
In 2007, the Ebling Library of UW-Madison conducted a series of training workshops for school nurses. More than 60 school nurses from all corners of the state took part in four training sessions, two Continuing Pharmacy Education workshops in April at the spring conference of the Wisconsin Association of School Nurses (WASN), and two half-day training sessions in June for all nurses working in Milwaukee public schools. Training included a review of evidence-based, information-seeking concepts, identification of the good starting points for evidence-based research, and hands-on computer time for participants to track down the best available evidence on current topics of interest to them.
Outcomes
More than 60 Wisconsin school nurses now have a better understanding of evidence-based practice concepts, know where to locate the best repositories of evidence-based information, and are familiar with how best to search the appropriate resources.
