Planning for Outdoor Recreation
UW-Madison Professor Dave Marcouiller works with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in assessments that help planners identify key elements of supply and demand for outdoor recreation throughout the state. Specific aspects of this work deal with the development of location supply metrics and their analysis, and recreational use compatibility. This work is also in partnership with the USDA Forest Service.
Outcomes
Marcouiller's research was incorporated into both the 2005 to 2010 Statewide Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) and the 2011 to 2016 SCORP. The latter project won both national (sponsored by the National Park Service and Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals) and state-level (Wisconsin Library Association 2012 Document of the Year Award) awards for its scope, content, research quality, and communication ability.
